Squaw Mountain Ranch (SMR), founded 75 years ago this year - that's 1933, is the oldest nudist resort west of the Mississippi. Located 2,000 ft. up in the foothills of Oregon's Cascade Mountains, SMR offers a touch of unspoiled wilderness combined with many of the features of modern resorts. We are situated on over 19 acres of beautifully wooded property and we are open all year. We host social events and meetings monthly and are available for quieter enjoyment most other times. SMR is cooperatively held and operated. As a result, things frequently happen more casually here than they do in a privately operated, for-profit resort. We hope you'll enjoy the informality.
We are 40 miles southeast of Portland, OR, near the town of Estacada, adjacent to the Mount Hood National Forest, and surrounded by thousands of acres of private timber land. Our elevation affords us pleasant summers and generally mild winters with occasional snow. The surrounding forest offers plenty of shade in the summer and protection from the wind in the winter. Our GPS data are N Latitude 45°, 14.63', W Longitude 22°, 11.02'
Facilities include the Lodge, the covered, outdoor Fred Eves Pavilion, and Rocky's Place with indoor games, video, darts, a pool table, and basic kitchen facilities. Outdoors there is a central, large sunning lawn surrounded by two hot tubs with showers, a wood-fired sauna, volleyball, horseshoes, miniature golf and our small, private Lake Opal. We also operate the Unique Boutique, featuring clothing for the discriminating nudist, jewelry, accessories, and basic sundries. We have activities monthly, but our grandest glory is our three-day-long Music Festival held every August - this year on the weekend of 8/15-8/17.
SMR has lots of RV sites with water and electrical hookups (35 amp but we're upgrading some sites to 50 this spring) as well as tent camping sites. Visitors can also rent one of the three rooms in our lodge. Motel rooms, food, RV supplies, and just about anything else you need are only 10 miles away in the friendly city of Estacada.
We're rustic so no food is available on site except during special events, but fresh, clean drinking water from our mountain well is plentiful and groceries are 15-20 minutes away in Estacada. Guests, whether they have anything to share or not, are always welcome to join the potluck dinner we host any Saturday night there are enough people in camp. Cell phone service is iffy this high up in the hills, so if you're looking for seclusion, you'll have come to the right place.
